Culture

Join us in one of our many cultural programs on a frequent and seasonal occurance. Daysland's cultural life is one of the progressive attractions for current residents. Our facilities, for hosting cultural events include the Palace Theatre, The Senior Centre, Community Hall, Daysland School and the Public Library. We have many groups that are dedicated on a volunteer basis for enriching our community lives with a variety of cultural activity. Some of these include: the community theatre organization, a historical society, the agricultural society, and various religious organizations. Something we're very proud of is the resurrection of the historic Palace Theatre which is now providing weekly and monthly entertainment in cinema, theatre, musicals and visual art. The works of many Alberta and Canadian artists are being invited to perform in this public space where many residents can enjoy them.

Health Care

Local medical services include Daysland General Hospital, a new 15-bed active treatment hospital, and Daysland Medical Centre. An efficient full-time ambulance service and a resident dentist round out the health services with four doctors. As well, Daysland is a member of the Flagstaff Family and Community Support Services that provide home care, home-maker services and counselling. Daysland also has Westside Manors and Providence Place, independent living for seniors.

At the Daysland Medical Centre, we have a staff of four general practitioners. Our hours of operation are from 9:00 5:30 Monday to Friday and we offer a Saturday clinic as well. We have a satellite clinic in Forestburg operating on Tuesday and Fridays. The doctors provide a full scope of general practice medicine and do most general surgery. The doctors are on call at the Daysland Health Center 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

History

Edgerton Day, in 1904, purchased 12 townships (276,480 acres) of the "Kentucky Blue Grass Region of the West", from the CPR for $750,000. The land included the present day sites of Daysland, Strome and Killam. Mr. Day was the first mayor of the Village of Daysland (1905) and the Town of Daysland (1907). Daysland’s major industry continues to be providing services to the progressive farmers of Flagstaff County.

Shopping

Daysland offers a variety of shops and services. In recent years, Daysland has become a shopping centre for communities adjoining neighborhoods within the Flagstaff County. We have one grocier, 2 convenience stores, a pharamacy and a variety of smaller retail developments located on the main street of the town.
Our main street also contains restaurants and other personal and business services. The town has a light industrial area, where many items and services not normally found in retail areas can be accessed.
